Plenas is a municipality of the region located at a higher altitude, 800 metres. The town centre is elongated and narrow, and it is made up of two districts where visitors can find picturesque nooks and crannies when they wander through them, such as the ensemble comprised of the washing place, drinking trough and the fountain with its three spouts, which stands on what used to be an old castle.

The endless streets stretch out to the Santa Maria River, on whose banks the locals’ vegetable gardens spread out.

Just over two kilometres from the centre is the Baroque style Virgen del Carrascal hermitage, where paintings from the same period can be seen in its dome. Before spring comes, a walk to the hermitage may surprise us with one of the most beautiful snapshots of nature, several plots of almond trees in flower.

The local women have kept the tradition of a popular Aragonese game, called “birlas”, alive. The fact is that the women of Plenas have a reference in Manuela Sancho, one of the heroines who defended Zaragoza during the sieges of the French troops in the Aragonese capital. Plenas has a space to honour the figure of Manuela Sancho.
